The Cedar Park addition and renovation is nestled along the protected shoreline of Coconut Bayou on Siesta Key. As the second renovation since 2007, the major challenge was integrating the original design with the previous renovation while adding a new dimension of space and functionality to the home. The new interior design in the northwest wing of the house mirrors the pitched garage form and creates a dynamic interplay between mass and void. The updated front entry features a courtyard and reflecting pool that leads out to a new waterfront terrace and larger swimming area. All interior spaces of the house have been reconfigured to accommodate the client’s needs while retaining the spirit of the original house.
The new guest bedrooms have full-height glass walls with integrated sliding doors and operable louvers for privacy and interior access. The bedroom pavilion is a pure geometry with no eaves on the east or west sides. The eaves on the existing garage are cut back to match, and in other locations the eaves are modified to achieve a similar aesthetic, appearing to lift the house from the existing overhangs. Portions of the south elevation have been preserved due to the extensive amount of structural additions in the first renovation.
